Course Information | |||||||||||
Description | A survey of world literature from the ancient world to the present. Students will study works of prose, poetry, drama, and fiction in relation to their historical and cultural contexts. Texts will be selected from a diverse group of authors and traditions. | ||||||||||
Prerequisites | This course assumes a basic mastery of composition, including mastery of Standard American English grammar, usage, and mechanics. Must have taken English 1301 and 1302 and passed. | ||||||||||
Learning Outcomes |
Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will: 1. Identify key ideas, representative authors and works, significant historical or cultural events, and characteristic perspectives or attitudes expressed in the literature of different periods or regions. (PSLO 5, Alpha)measured by response paper rubric, Pre-test/Post-test. 2. Analyze literary works as expressions of individual or communal values within the social/ethical, political, cultural, or religious contexts of different literary periods.(PSLO 1,2,6)measured by class discussion & essay rubric. 3. Demonstrate knowledge of the development of characteristic forms or styles of expression during different historical periods or in different regions.(PSLO 1,2,6) measured by essay rubric. 4. Write in a style that clearly communicates meaning, ethically builds credibility,& inspires belief and action.(PSLO 1,2,5,6)measured by essay rubric. |
